Having teeth re aligned?

Planning for a wedding has lots of exciting components and the list can become quite extensive. Thinking about having braces so that your teeth can be aligned and look fabulous for photographs can often come last, if anywhere.

If you are thinking about having your teeth straightened in time for a big day, my advice would be to have it come in a little earlier on in the list. It may not be the most important decision on a wedding list but it is one that takes a little time, thought and planning.

I have a number of patients coming in to see me who are planning to get married. If the date is a few years away then most cases can be treated before the wedding and patients can be braces free for the big day. As the time span reduces, the number of patients who might not get to the end of the treatment will increase. This does not mean to say that I cannot treat someone with a shorter time frame but the process in these cases is more about improvements.

Lingual braces is one option. I had a patient who was having treatment for around 18 months and was planning to be wed. She decided to get married in the States with her lingual appliance on and no one noticed. If treatment has not finished, another option is that the braces can be removed for the wedding and retainers can be made for wear until the brace goes back on. I have also carried out simple alignment in 6 months but if the time span is very short, then improvements rather than finish is more likely.

Invisible, removable braces can also work well, as a patient can choose to continue to wear their brace and take it out just for day. My team and I try to make treatment as bespoke and flexible to the needs of our patients as possible.

Everyone is different and depending on your teeth and mouth, having orthodontics can take anywhere between 6 to 12 months, or in some cases a little more. A rough time frame can be given after a consultation. As a specialist practice that offer a range of invisible options such as lingual braces, Invisalign and ceramic (tooth coloured) braces, we get a lot of enquiries from adults.
